The State of Unemployment Extension for 2010

1

The legislation that is expected to provide extension of federal extended unemployment benefits, which have expired last June 2nd, was unfortunately rejected by the Senate.

However, Democrats are hopeful and are eager to attempt to change the legislation in high hopes of coming up with a bill that will eventually pass and save hundreds of thousands of unemployed people and their families.

In earlier times, unemployment extensions have been retroactive, so, this is likely going to be the case this time, if an extension qualifies. As of this moment, the measure is a scaled down version which doesn’t include the COBRA subsidy and extends filing through November.

Furthermore, the legislation does not include a Tier 5 unemployment extension that would provide more added weeks of unemployment benefits for the 99ers, or those unemployed workers which happens to have already used up all their unemployment benefits.

For the current state of unemployment within your area, consult your State Unemployment Office web site for particulars on who qualifies, when and how benefits will be paid.

Contact your State unemployment office !!!! That a joke, I live in Ohio, I file on the Internet, it wants us to continue to file even if you have no benefits left in case its retroactive, only problem the web site will not let you file !!! You have to call in and do a paper return, and I was on hold for 2 hour and 23 mins before a CSR came on the line to help me file my return, and the best part i get to do it again next week!!!!!! Seems like the Unemployment Office Should hire some more workers !!!!!!
