unemployed asking to work for foodAs the US Senate takes a break to give way for the Independence Day holiday, many Americans who are jobless, in-debt and homeless are left hanging until a standalone unemployment extension measure (which was passed by the House) is approved by the Senate come July 12th but many experts believe that the Senate will not vote until mid-July.

Since the Senate has failed to approve unemployment extension last week as both parties—Republicans and Democrats were unable to come into consensus on how to cover the multi-billion dollar requirements for extending unemployment benefits, millions of Americans ceased receiving their unemployment compensation since June 1st and it was challenging for most that depend on it for their daily grind.

Even before unemployment extension was stalled in the Senate, we have  received comments from readers about their current employment status and the difficult situations they have been facing. Read some of the comments below.

A man from Colorado wrote,

“My wife and I are both unemployed. We’ve been searching and searching for jobs. We have applied for many jobs, but at 59 years old, it’s not very promising. We’ve gone thru our savings, 401K and pension money.

We have no life insurance, no medical insurance, and in a week we’ll be 3 months behind in our mortgage.

Right now we have 280.00 left, haven’t paid any bills need to save that for food and gas. We’re just depressed every day. Just don’t know what to do.”

A mom from California wrote,

“All I’m thinking is how will I get my daughter her school supplies or how can I afford to buy my kid’s birthday things when I can’t even pay the light or rent. What should I do if no one would hire me? I feel so bad that my kids how to live through this struggle with me!”

This person from New York, who’s pleading for help like everyone else wrote,

“Please help us and our families survive. We are working so hard to find a job. I was laid off from my job after 30 years of service. I would have stayed with the company until I was 65 years old. Please help us…this is not our fault. We want to work. We can not find jobs.”

These are just among the many sentiments we have been receiving each day and it was sad that they have to go through this while the rest of those who are in power to make a change and make a difference to these people’s lives were out spending a grand holiday while the rest are having a hard time figuring out where to get something for food.

If you’re still receiving unemployment benefits until today, you might want to check on how you could empower yourself so you could find the right job before your unemployment insurance ends by the 26th week because after such time, you will have no more safety net to count on.
